The Elevens Strategy

The elevens strategy works for multiplying 11 by any two digit number.

Lets use 11 x 43 as an example.

Step one split the other factor and leave a space in the middle ---> 4 _ 3

Step two add the two numbers of the factor together 4 + 3 = 7

Step three put the sum of the two numbers in the middle 473

If you have a two digit number that adds to more than nine you have to add the number in the tens to the first number.

example: 11 x 89

step one: 8_9

step two: 8 + 9 = 17

step three: 8 + 1 = 9

step four: 979
